Television- Boon or Bane

Television is a wonderful gift of science to man. To visualize the remote is another feather in the cap of man. Undoubtedly it has become the fastest growing medium for the mass communication.  It is also the most glamorous and controversial medium. Some also consider it as a new bull in the china shop, which is shattering many of our traditional beliefs and values.

T.V’s effectively used for educational and literacy campaigns, for promotion of health and hygiene campaigns. These uses make it as a tool of change in developing countries like India. It is an important source of spreading information in all the fields. It brings latest information, fashions and trends even in the huts of remote country side. Watching films, plays and sports provide a healthy entertainment for men of all ages.

The arrival of each new medium also creates potential fears and threats in the minds of the people. Overdose of violence corrupts the minds of young men and women. Commercial advertisements develop the habit of superfluous consumption. Students get tempted to watch more and more fils on TV. It adversely affects their studies.

Television is a boon but injudicious use of this electronic medium can also make it a bane for mankind. If used rightly TV can contribute for the well-being of society by becoming an agent of cultural upliftment. Concerns about the effects of TV on students has centered exclusively on contents of the program which children watch.

TV is an important source of learning as it provides great deal of information regarding the natural world, history etc. But the accuracy of these ideas and facts cannot be judged by the young ones as they have the limited experience. In case of knowledge being acquired from reading or activities, the children use their mind, the imaginative and reasoning power to enrich their lives

                                 

Degradation in the number of high school pass outs

In recent years, a very disturbing trend has emerged. Percentage of children clearing the 10th and 12th class examination is on decline. It started showing great decline from 1998. It is indeed disappointing and frustrating. Paucity of qualified and experienced staff in certain schools could be just one reason, but not the sole reason for this downward trend. increased distractions in the form of TV, computer and internet could be the main reason. Today children spend hours in front of the TV and computers and this robs them of their precious study time. Parental pressure can be the another malefactor. Undue interference by the parents and the pressure to excel and score high in academics leads to frustration and irritation and a consequent lack of concentration. Children also tend to become rebellious under such pressure. also, immensely competitive environment of today has stiffed the joy of learning among children.
       
                 In order to conquer this undesirable trend, we, have to , work out suitable strategies. Counselling could be the best solution.

Courage is Victory

Courage is victory and timidity is defeat. It is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of fight in the dog that counts. If you are not afraid you can do anything you want. You have to have the courage to stand-up to defeat, spot your opportunity and turn defeat into victory. One man with courage makes a majority.

                        There are no hopeless situations but there are people who have grown helpless about them. If you persevere, help the pressure and hang on long enough, you can wear down any opposition and overcome any obstacle. It is more often the fear of failure itself which  cripples one's creativity and inhibits the initiatives. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom and the first step to success. We should aim to have doggged perseverance and single minded dedication.

                      The reasons of failure may seem staggering if viewed collectively and if we look at them individually they will no longer be that formidable. You can either be discouraged and defeated by failure or you can learn from it and use it as a stepping stone to success.  It is a fallacy as well as the folly to think that the failure is the enemy of the success. On the other hand it is a great teacher- a harsh one but the best. Don't be afraid of making mistakes or meeting failures. Often success surfaces on the far side of failure. If you can manage to learn from failure and benefit from your mistakes, you will decidedly go where you started out to go. The formula for success may well be to double the rate of your failure.

                                Failure is not fatal, it can verily be the stepping stone to success, if you can put failure to work for you. The ability to fail. but profit from it, contributes to the lasting success. Making a mistake is not a crime, but repeating one is. Everybody fails at some time. Extract the lesson to be learnt from the failure and try again with redoubled vigor.

                                Nothing that comes too easily is worth having. When you want success you must be ready to pay a price which includes braving failures and setbacks and persisting with your effort till the goal is achieved. Achieving success demands total effort. One has to resist temptations and defy distractions. If you want to get there badly enough, nothing can stop you.

                        Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall. Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune but great minds rise above it. Meet every adverse circumstance as its master and do not let it master you. many men owe the grandeur of their lives to their tremendous difficulties. Adversity is the prosperity of the great. Kites rise, not with, but against wind.
     
                  To dare is great, but to bear is greater. If you have never failed, it is an easy guess that you have never known a high success. The hardest man in the world to beat is the man who laughs at the face of the defeat.
